- Lightwinder bridges long cable runs in a snap, and its reliability is unsurpassed -
NSCA CONVENTION, ORLANDO, FL, March 8, 2001 -
When the Anheuser-Busch 2001 Annual Corporate Meeting opens in San Francisco's cavernous Moscone Center this month, the Otari Lightwinder fiber optic audio networking system will ensure that all the audio signals are routed noise-free from point-to-point. ProMix, the audio division of international production leader Production Resource Group, will utilize a Lightwinder system configured for 32 sends and 32 returns for this important conclave, where microphone cable runs extend upwards of 600 feet.
While ProMix is noted within the industry for their work on hit Broadway shows and road productions, Lightwinder has helped further the company's already-significant penetration of the corporate production market. ProMix has used Lightwinder on a wide variety of corporate/industrial theatrical productions including: the National Conference for the Assemblies of God, held in Orlando, Florida; Primerica Financial Services national meeting, held at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia; and Home Depot's 20th Anniversary Celebration, held at Atlanta's Civic Center.
"For the Anheuser-Busch production - and, in fact, for every production with cable runs longer than 500 feet, which we see a lot of in big annual corporate meetings - we typically use the Otari Lightwinder," states Nick Perakes, senior project manager at ProMix in Orlando. "The Lightwinder does away with the need for isolation transformers on long cable runs and eliminates any worry about ground loops." Perakes says he likes the Lightwinder's flexibility, which allows him to customize the cable configuration to suit each individual project. "Our standard configuration is 48 x 16," he explains. "But it's a versatile design that lets us go up to 64 channels. We've been using the Lightwinder for two years now and its performance is outstanding - there has not been a single failure in all that time, in any of those applications."
One hallmark of fiber optic cable's benefits for professional audio is the advantage of total signal immunity to RFI and EMI interference - especially useful when wireless microphone systems and extensive lighting systems are used in the live sound production environment. The fiber optic cable runs can be as far as 3,000 meters. Additionally, the armored fiber optic cable used in Otari's Lightwinder System is approximately 5% of the weight and bulk of conventional multi-pair audio cables; this not only offers faster cabling turnarounds and thus, reduced labor costs, but also eliminates tedious hum and noise troubleshooting since Lightwinder offers complete ground isolation. In addition to high-quality live sound applications, Lightwinder has been successfully installed in fixed installations like recording, film and video post-production studios, broadcast facilities and theatrical venues.
Otari's Lightwinder systems have been used in many live sound applications around the world where long runs and interference make quality audio a challenge including: the 2000 Sydney Olympics, NFL's Superbowl, World Cup Skiing, and numerous concert and live theater productions. |
